Wawel Castle Grounds & The Dragon

What is the best way to see the Wawel Dragon? Just head straight to it! The dragon breathes actual fire, so you really need to check it out.

Walking (or running) the grounds of Wawel Castle is also completely free!

You can of course enter the castle if your toddler has the patience. Just make sure you book your tickets in advance to avoid waiting in line.

Vistula River Walk

AKA the Vistula Boulevard, or Bulwar Inflancki, this is a long paved path along both sides of the Vistula River in Kraków.

This is perfect for pushing a tired tot for a stroller nap, or even watching the ducks on the river.

Planty Park

Planty Park is a greenway belt that surrounds the Kraków Old Town. With a paved walkway, this is an incredibly stroller-friendly path!

Are there any playgrounds near Krakow Old Town? Yes! Around the southern bend of Planty Park, you’ll also find a couple of playgrounds that are perfect for burning off energy.

Otherwise, it’s a great place for a stroller nap.

There are also several places along the way that offer bike rentals! Check out one that has toddler seat options.

Rynek Główny (Main Market Square)

Rynek Główny is an excellent place to start your day. Grab a coffee and stroll around, or let your toddler toddle off some morning energy.

There are tons of cafes, shops and general medieval charm to soak in here. Climb up the Town Hall Tower (free on Tuesdays) for great views of the city!

Just make sure you arrive early, as the square will start filling up around 9.

Park Jordana

Park Jordana is one of the most family-friendly parks in Kraków!

You will find several playgrounds, so look around to find one that’s challenging yet safe for your toddler.

When the weather is nice, there’s also a great splash pad for kids to play!

The best part? The park, playgrounds and splash pad are free!

Toddler-Friendly Activities in Kraków

Botanical Garden (Ogród Botaniczny Uniwersytetu Jagiellońskiego)

Just a 10 minute walk from the Old Town, the Botanical Garden is a great place to explore in Kraków with toddlers!

Its stroller-friendly paths are lovely for a relaxed outdoor walk. Otherwise, you’ll find tons of trees, plants and flowers to explore with your little traveler.

Plus, children 4 and under are free! However, make sure you book your adults tickets in advance.

Krakow Zoo

The Kraków Zoo is great for an easy day trip outside the Old Town. Book your tickets in advance online!

Although not a huge zoo, you can certainly spend a couple hours here. The highlight for my toddler is definitely the petting zoo area!

If you’re traveling elsewhere in Poland, the Gdańsk Zoo is by far the most impressive! Check out our full guide to Gdańsk with Toddlers for more info – coming soon!

Stanisław Lem Garden of Experiences

Open in the spring and summer, this outdoor space is a great place for toddlers to learn about physics!

Promoting learning about science through play, you’ll find different hands-on activities for physics experiments.

With sections for acoustics, mechanics, hydrostatics, and optics, kids won’t even know they’re learning!

Garden of Lights

In autumn and winter, check out the Garden of Lights for an amazing display! The theme changes fairly often, so check their website to see what’s on for your trip!

This is an evening activity, so it’s great if your toddler is jetlagged. It’s so fun it might even be worth staying up late for.

Local Markets

Heading to local markets when traveling is a fantastic way to experience local living. You can pick up snacks, entire meals, or even local home goods that make great souvenirs.

Check out the markets Stary Kleparz or Plac Nowy in Kazimierz for fresh fruit, veggies, breads, cheeses and other goodies!

If you’re looking for souvenirs, Poland is the place for Baltic amber jewelry, embroidered linens, Bolesławiec pottery and hand-carved wooden pieces.

Plus, the aquarium is fun for seeing marine life. Toddlers love watching the fish swim up close!

Polish Aviation Museum

Inside the museum, you can see engines and other mechanical parts of planes. Additionally, there are several hands-on activities like exploring cockpits and pretending to be a pilot!

However, the outdoor space is really where the Polish Aviation Museum shines for toddlers. You will have tons of space for running while exploring old planes and helicopters!

As a bonus, this museum is covered in the KrakowCard! Additionally, admission is free on Tuesdays!

Toddler-Friendly Tours in Kraków

Horse-Drawn Carriage Ride

Riding behind a pony can be an exciting way to see the city! These tours will typically start in the Old Town and give you a great overview of Kraków.

Try a shorter half hour tour so your toddler doesn’t get too antsy. However, most of the drivers are great at keeping kids engaged, while still offering plenty of information for the adults.

River Cruise

Take a Sightseeing Cruise on the Vistula River to see the city from an exciting viewpoint!

Boats are an amazing way to see Kraków with toddlers, especially as the Vistula River cuts right through the best part of the city.

Indoor Activities in Kraków with Toddlers

While you should get outside and explore as much as you can, sometimes you just need some indoor time.

And sometimes it’s rainy, cold or too hot, and indoor activities really are your best option!

Make sure you’re prepared for all weather with our European Toddler Packing List!

Smart Kids Planet – Krakowskie Centrum Mądrej Zabawy

With several different zones, your toddler is sure to find an area that will make them never want to leave! Located in Galeria Kazimierz, this smart play center is arguably the best indoor spot for kids.

Most zones are aimed at kids aged 3-10. However, there is also a “Thumper Zone” for toddlers aged 1-3, which focuses on sensory play.

Toddlers can play delivery driver at the InPost zone. Or they can shop at the mini Carrefour, just like Mom and Dad.

All the activities are designed by child development specialists, so your kids are learning through play!

Klub Fikołki

Fikołki has several locations throughout Poland. Klub Fikołki in Kazimierz even has a toddler corner so you can rest assured they won’t get run over by big kids!

They even offer toddler-specific classes for learning, including lots of musical class options!

GOkidz!

With a Mini Planeta zone specifically for kids aged 1-4, this is a great place to expend some toddler energy!

The GOkidz! play center itself is HUGE, so if your toddler is anything like mine, they’ll probably want to explore the big kid areas too.

Just note that parents are not allowed on the equipment, and will have to stick to the adult pathways.

Make sure you’re comfortable with your kids exploring on their own! And that you’re confident you can wrangle them to leave when it’s time!

Pixel Planet

If you really need to burn some energy, this is the best rainy-day activity located right in the heart of the Old Town.

The floors are made of big pixels that react to every step, jump and somersault with colorful lights. Basically, it’s a giant, glowing game mat perfect for entertaining toddlers!

You can get general tickets, or book a private session just for your family.

Non-slip socks are required here, but you’re welcome to bring your own.

Anikino

This is another fantastic indoor play center for toddlers! You’ll find a huge ball pit, slides, playgrounds, themed play rooms and more!

Aquapark Krakow

Just a 30 minute tram ride from the city center, this is a great place to take your toddler in Kraków!

And with a dedicated area for babies and toddlers, this is one of the best indoor attractions in Kraków with toddlers!

There’s a paddling pool, a pirate ship, toddler-sized water slides, and a mushroom.

Aquapark Krakow is an amazing indoor attraction for toddlers. However, if the weather is nice, you can also soak up the sun at the Aqua Park Beach!

Stroller Accessibility in Kraków

Is Krakow stroller-friendly? Yes, mostly.

On trams and buses, there are usually low-floor entrances so you can stroll on. However, the biggest challenge here will be crowding.

You will also encounter cobblestones in the Old Town. However, this is manageable with the right stroller.

Make sure you have a cobblestone-approved, compact travel stroller when exploring Kraków with toddlers!

How to get from Krakow airport to the city center with a car seat? A private transfer is best.

Any time a baby or toddler get in a car in Poland, they are required to be in a car seat. Many taxis and ride shares will have them available, but not all.

Personally, we prefer to travel without car seats – it’s that must less to worry about!

If you’re not bringing a car seat, or would rather not risk having to wait for a taxi with the right car seat, take the train for ease.

Sustainability Tip: The “Krakowianka”

Kraków has some of the best tap water in Europe, locally known as Krakowianka.

You will find free drinking water fountains throughout the Old Town and Planty Park.

Instead of buying water bottles, bring a reusable toddler bottle from home. You’ll save money, while being easier on the planet!

The Biggest Challenge: Wieliczka Salt Mine

Is the Wieliczka Salt Mine suitable for toddlers? Sort of… It depends your determination.

While this is an incredible attraction, it can be difficult with toddlers. There are over 350 steps to get down, and takes a couple hours to tour.

If you’re determined to visit the Wieliczka Salt Mine, make sure you have a good toddler carrier!

Otherwise, consider having one parent visit while the other takes your toddler to one of the many indoor play centers mentioned above!

Either way, if you decide to go, book your tour in advance!

The Milk Bar Experience

When hungry strikes, there’s nothing more convenient than a Milk Bar – Bar Mleczny.

These restaurants are cafeteria-style, so you get your food pretty much immediately.

You’ll find chicken noodle soup (rosół), potato dumplings (kopytka) and crepes (naleśniki), all perfect for little eaters.

Milkbar Tomasza is a great choice near the Old Town. For a more traditional feel, try Pod Temidą on Grodzka Street.
