Brașov: The Perfect Base

Is Brașov Romania worth visiting? Yes, absolutely! It’s actually one city I wish we’d spent more time in during our Romanian babymoon.

Nestled in a valley, Brașov’s pedestrianized Old Town is flat and very easy to walk around.

In the heart of the city, you’ll find Piata Sfatului (Council Square). This square filled with small shops and cozy cafes, and is great for people watching.

Additionally, take your time exploring the little streets that branch out from the main square!

From the main square, you can easily walk to the Biserica Neagră (Black Church). While impressive from the outside, head inside for even more beauty to behold!

Managing The Challenge of Bran Castle While Pregnant

Is Bran Castle wheelchair accessible? Unfortunately, no. This is a true medieval fortress. Expect narrow, steep, spiral staircases with uneven stone floors.

This can make it a bit more challenging for pregnant travelers, but just make sure your partner is readily available to steady you.

You can also spend more time in the Royal Gardens and Courtyard, which is flatter.

It will also help if you arrive right at opening time, or later in the afternoon. This way you won’t feel as rushed since there will be fewer people.

How long do you need at Bran Castle? Roughly 2 hours, plus time for the surrounding village and shops. If you opt to view the extra torture museum within the castle, add about an hour.

Make sure you book your tickets in advance to avoid waiting in line! This will make it much easier on your pregnant back.

Brasov Accommodation Guide

When planning your trip to Brașov and Bran Castle, you’ll want to base yourself in Brașov. Brașov is an easily walkable city with superior amenities, plus more options than Bran.

Heading to the castle is an easy day or half-day trip, especially with a car.

Both options below include free parking for your rental car, so you can book worry-free!

Option 1: Old Town Center For Walkability

By staying close to the old town, you’ll have immediate access to the best of the city. Plus, you won’t need your car once you’re checked in.

The Residence Central Annapolis is located right in the Old Town, offering spacious rooms and suites on a budget. Check prices and availability.

Option 2: Just Outside the Center For Luxury

Although not too far from the Old Town, you’ll have a quieter, more peaceful stay outside the city center. This is the perfect opportunity to splurge a bit for a luxurious stay! Don’t worry – you still won’t break the bank, as Romania is a very affordable country, even for luxury hotels.

Vila Katharina has individually decorated rooms, so you’ll truly feel like royalty when staying here. Book a room with a clawfoot tub for extra elegance!

Gentle Activities Outside the City

If you’re looking for activities outside the city, your car will really come in handy!

The Libearty Bear Sanctuary while pregnant is an easy, gentle activity. You’ll be able to stick to well-maintained paths, while supporting the sanctuary’s effort to save bears from violent situations and from the circus.

Is the Mount Tampa cable car safe for pregnant women? Yes! The telecabina is a great alternative to the steep hike up the mountain and offers great views. Even so, make sure you’ve got your comfortable walking shoes on!

The cable car can bring on a bit of motion sickness or anxiety, so make sure you get the all clear from your doctor if you’re worried. If it’s too windy and you’re not comfortable riding, spend more time meandering in Brașov instead!

Getting to Bran Castle: Logistics from Brașov

How do you get to Bran Castle from Brașov? Drive south on DN73 and you’ll arrive in about 40 minutes!

We took the A3 bypass, which was one of my husband’s favorite stretches of drive. Like the autobahn, you get to drive as fast as you want, so you’ll probably get passed by some very sporty cars. You’ll also shave about 10 minutes off your drive.

Either way, don’t forget your compression socks to make the ride and walking around more comfortable!

Conclusion

Both Brașov and Bran Castle offer medieval history with stunning architecture. These are both very manageable for your Romania babymoon, with a few thoughtful considerations on making your itinerary more gentle.

Obviously, strategic planning makes all the difference and is key to your comfort!
